Features

Everything an assistant would handle. None of the overhead.

From the meeting room to your inbox, Jacl captures what matters and turns it into action.

Meetings become minutes, on their own

Jacl records and transcribes on-device, then turns the conversation into a summary and a to-do list — before you are back at your desk. Decisions, owners, deadlines: captured.

Total recall

"What did we decide about the launch date?" is a search away, not a memory test. Every meeting stays searchable.

Email, tamed

Connect email and messaging; Jacl distills the noise into summaries and concrete follow-up tasks.

Reminders that find you

Promises made out loud in a meeting become nudges at the right moment. Nothing slips.

It does the busywork

Through MCP integrations Jacl acts for you — like filing the Jira ticket you promised in standup.

Local AI by default. Cloud only if you say so.

All the intelligence runs on your machine — your audio and data never leave it, and it works on a plane. Want more horsepower? Optionally connect Claude or ChatGPT, per feature, on your terms.

How it works

From conversation to done, in four steps

  1. 1

    Capture

Hit record in a meeting, or connect your email and messaging. Jacl takes it from there.

  2. 2

    Understand

The local LLM transcribes and reads everything on your machine, extracting decisions and action items.

  3. 3

    Organize

Summaries, to-dos, searchable transcripts, and reminders appear automatically.

  4. 4

    Act

Approve a task and Jacl executes it through your integrations — Jira tickets and more.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does Jacl send my audio or data to the cloud?

No — not by default. Jacl records, transcribes, and summarizes entirely on your machine using a local LLM. Your audio, transcripts, tasks, and email content stay on your computer. If you choose to connect a cloud model (Claude or ChatGPT) for extra capability, only the text needed for that request is sent to the provider you configured — and you can switch back to fully local at any time.

What is the difference between the local LLM and a cloud LLM in Jacl?

Out of the box Jacl runs a local LLM on your own hardware: it works offline, costs nothing per use, and nothing leaves your machine. Optionally, you can plug in your own Claude or ChatGPT API access for higher-quality summaries and more capable task handling. Local is the default; cloud is an opt-in per-feature choice you control in settings.

Why is Jacl a one-time purchase instead of a subscription?

Because Jacl does the work on your computer, there are no per-user server costs to pass on to you. You pay $49.99 once and own the app. Subscription note-takers typically charge $10–$20 per month — more than the entire price of Jacl every few months, forever.

Is my meeting audio private? Where are recordings stored?

Yes. Recordings and transcripts are stored locally on your device and processed by the local LLM by default. Jacl does not upload your audio to our servers — we never see it. You stay in control of what is kept, searched, and deleted. As with any recording tool, follow your local laws and let participants know when you record.

Which platforms does Jacl support?

Jacl is a desktop app for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows 10/11, and Linux (AppImage and .deb). Because transcription and the local LLM run on your machine, a reasonably modern computer is recommended.

How do the free trial and licensing work?

Every download starts a full-featured 14-day free trial — no credit card required. After the trial, buy a license once for $49.99 (checkout and license management are handled securely by Polar) and enter your license key in the app to keep using Jacl.

Does Jacl work offline?

Yes. With the default local LLM, recording, transcription, summaries, task extraction, search, and reminders all work with no internet connection. Only optional features that inherently need the network — cloud LLMs, email sync, and integrations like Jira — require connectivity.

What can Jacl actually do for me day to day?

Jacl listens to your meetings and turns them into summaries and to-do lists, keeps every transcript searchable, reads the email and messages you connect and drafts summaries and follow-up tasks, reminds you before things slip, and can act for you through MCP integrations — for example creating or updating Jira tickets straight from a meeting decision.

How is Jacl different from Granola and other AI note-takers?

Jacl covers what tools like Granola do — meeting transcription, AI summaries, and action items — but with three differences: it is a one-time $49.99 purchase instead of a monthly subscription, it processes everything locally by default instead of in the cloud, and it goes beyond notes: email triage, reminders, and taking actions in your tools via MCP.
